What Is a Playbook

The difference between a playbook and another content strategy article

There is no shortage of articles about content strategy. Most of them tell you what to think about rather than what to do. Our playbooks are built to be used, not bookmarked.

1

A specific starting point and ending point. You know when you are done and what you should have produced.

2

Ordered steps with real instructions. Not "research your competitors." Step-by-step with decision criteria at each point.

3

B2B SaaS context throughout. Every recommendation is written for the specific buying behavior and content economics of B2B SaaS companies.

Who These Are For

Playbooks are built for people running or building a content program

They are written at a level of detail that assumes you are responsible for the decisions, not just reading about them.

These playbooks are for you if:

  • You are a B2B SaaS marketing lead or content lead managing a content program
  • You are a founder who is running content before you have a dedicated hire
  • You have organic traffic but are not sure it is targeting the right buyers
  • You are evaluating whether to build content in-house or with an agency
  • You want to understand what a content audit or GEO audit involves before commissioning one

These playbooks are not for you if:

  • You are looking for a content template to fill in and publish as-is
  • You are at pre-product-market fit and still validating your ICP
  • You need tactical guides for e-commerce or B2C SEO
  • You are expecting a list of tools rather than a process for using them
FAQ

Questions about the playbooks

Are the playbooks free?

Yes. All playbooks published on this page will be free. No email gate, no paid tier. If you want the full document without reading it on a screen, an option to download a PDF version will be included when each playbook goes live.

How detailed are these compared to a blog article?

Considerably more detailed. A blog article on keyword strategy might cover what to look for in a keyword. A playbook covers the full process: where to start, what data to pull, how to group it, what decisions to make at each step, and what the output should look like when you are done. They are built to be run, not skimmed.

When will the first playbook be available?

The Keyword Strategy Playbook is the furthest along. We are reviewing it before publishing to make sure it holds up against the range of B2B SaaS categories and company sizes we work with. We are not publishing on a fixed schedule, but the first release is close. The best way to know when it goes live is to check back here or book an intro call and ask to be notified.

Can I use the playbooks with my team or with clients?

Yes. You can use the playbooks internally with your team. If you want to use them in a client-facing context, please attribute the source. If you have a specific use case you are not sure about, reach out via the contact page.
